Monic Fly Line

Water Time Outfitters teamed up with Monic Fly Lines to bring you an exclusive new line developed by Rob Crandall especially for small stream and river steelhead fishing!

For many years Rob would cut the end taper off a double taper 8 or 9 weight line to get it to perform correctly with an indicator and weighted fly rig so common on many NW small streams. Monic has fixed that problem by creating an extreme front taper on the double taper line. This helps smoothly transition the energy from the body of your fly line to the leader.

The best part is the new line is not only a floating line in the correct taper but CLEAR! That’s right it is clear and nearly invisible to fish. We have found that this line increases our catch when water conditions are low and clear. If you have spooky fish in clear water, this is the line you need!

A Day on the Deschutes

Salmon flies on the Deschutes River are full swing now. Best bet for the first 2 weeks of June are fishing Warmsprings to Trout Creek areas. For top results on salmon fly dries fish under the trees and around foliage. Don't forget caddis and PMD's this time of year either.

If you are ready to book, contact Rob Crandall

Grindstone Lakes

Grindstone lakes are located in Central Oregon near Prineville. Fishing in a pontoon boat is a peaceful way to fish especially when you need to sneak up on fish feeding on #14 Poxyback Callibaetis!

Rodger Carbon http://www.carbonesflyfishing.com provides the meals and organizes the group and rotates the five lakes available for fishing. In a word, the fishing was phenomenal!

The highlight of the trip for me is fishing with my good friend and guide Rob Crandall. A special treat on this trip was also fishing with Wendy Way. Wendy just returned from a month in British Columbia and is "experienced" in fishing Chironomid patterns. He is a wealth of knowledge and a true pioneer in fly fishing.

Wendy will lend us a hand in developing a WolfPk Outdoors Stillwater fly box. According to Wendy - "Some people tie flies to catch fisherman, I ties flies to catch fish." I can personally attest to that!

Clackamas River Trips

Rob Crandall guided a couple of ladies on the Clackamas River this past Saturday. The following note and photos say it all. It is not too late to book a guided trip with Rob.

Saturday was such a great day! I know they can't all be that way, but
it was fun, a great lunch, and I am so happy to learn that I can Spey
cast!! Terry even called me the "next steelhead queen" must have
been a moment of weakness on her part. Thanks Rob, I really enjoy
having you take us down the river, your style is very comfortable, and
I learn so much! Marcia

Clackamas River

It was a bright sunny day on the Clackamas river, and we were conducting a photo shoot of the new line of Clackacraft driftboats. Rob Crandall stopped by to assist and row the boats into position while Jake Gregg of Clackacraft made a few casts for the camera. Wouldn't you know it, Jake hooks onto a bright hatchery fish and with Rob's help lands the the fish. We couldn't ask for a better photo opportunity, and Jake earned some bragging rights. Thanks Guys, talk about good Karma.

Gary Anderson Custom Rods

Whether you are searching for the "ultimate" single handed, or the two handed spey, Gary Anderson Custom Rods are just hard to beat. If you spend a lifetime fishing the Rogue River you soon learn what it takes to bring in those half pounders.

Joe Saracione suggested I give Gary a call and ask him to design a "Special Edition" 9' 6" six weight rod. Something that would cast streamers and large flies on our western rivers. Joe suggested we put one of his reels to balance the rod, and Gary offered to select the appropriate line to "load" the rod.

The input from these true craftsman created something we know will enjoy for a lifetime, and pass on to your family members.

Saracione - Reels

Joe Saracione fly reels, www.saracione.com, are sought after all over the world. For over twenty years, he has built classic fly reels for trout and salmon fishing. He has a devoted international following and waiting list for his reels on his work bench.

A few years ago I had a chance to meet Joe and experience using his reels first hand. I had recently lost a very big fish with a reel that had an "inferior" drag system. I vowed to never let that happen again.

Joe has since became a client, and has patiently educated me on the merits of having the proper reel and line balance to support my fly rod of choice. To this day, when I head to Wyoming to fish the North Platte, or cast into the wind on the Deschutes, you can bet my reel is a Saracione. Don't settle for anything else!

WolfPk Outdoors is very pleased to offer these reels on our online store. He is a craftsman with an attention to detail that are unmatched. Whether you fish a single handed or spey rod, Saracione should be your reel of choice.

Rob Crandall - Guide

Rob Crandall and I have fly fished many lakes and rivers throughout the Northwest. His "specialty" is casting and swinging streamers for steelhead on the Deschutes river. There are no words that can properly describe that "fish on" moment. Just book a trip with Rob and see for yourself, he is a good as it gets!

Rob is also an excellent photographer, his photos reflect his genuine appreciation of the outdoors. If you are lucky, he might take a photo of you releasing a Deschutes redside or a native steelhead. Rob's photo of the "Deschutes Island" was selected by our company for the banner design of our website.

Rob provides three day guided float trips on the Deschutes River. You will enjoy fantastic scenery and fly fishing for trout and steelhead. At the end of the day, your gear is delivered to the camp and it is time to relax, and tell a few stories. Dinner and beverages are served by the light of the moon, and the sounds of the river. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Fathers & Sons

I grew up fly fishing on the McKenzie River with my Dad. After work, we would grab the fly rods, check out the evening hatch and fish until dark.

I remember purchasing my first new fly rod. In the 1950's, there weren't a lot of fly shops and "name brands" to choose from. While our choices were limited, so was the cash! It didn't matter, I had picked beans all summer and had enough to get what I wanted.

Over the years, I have acquired a number of different fly rods, reels and fly lines. Quite frankly, lately I have been getting organized and trying to minimize my equipment. I have my "favorites", usually they are for bigger rivers and streams. Selecting the proper fly line that load a fly rod is a science that is ever changing.

This whole organizational process got me to thinking. If I had to do it over again, what would buy today? This was the beginning of my quest to find the "perfect Northwest outfit".

We were already developing the website for Joe Saracione, and it didn't take long to realize why he is rated as one of the best reel makers in the world. He suggested I contact Gary Anderson, an outstanding rod maker in Southern Oregon. I asked them both, if they could select one rod and reel outfit, what would they choose to fish?

Without hesitation they both said - 9' 6" six weight with a 3 1/4 Saracione reel loaded with Rio Line! It was my personal choice as well. I asked them if they would produce this outfit as a "Special Edition outfit to offer on the www.wolfpk.comcompany store.

Please visit us on May 1st, they won't last long!
